Chapter Thirteen

Raya sat and waited patiently outside the sprawling estate grounds. Just as Hanz had said, Mael had called his finest to him in his hour of need but they had also taken a considerable amount of time leaving. Raya was becoming annoyed and worried about the sustaining power of her amulet. She gathered from Cassandra's fragmented thoughts that the amulet lasted twelve hours, so there was really no reason to worry. The misgivings and foreboding were likely remnant of the weaker soul struggling to get free.

It was nearing night fall when she saw the cars that had arrived earlier, leaving, and when she felt the vampire king's energy waning. This would be perfect if he also left. He must have gone in one of the cars because it felt like his signature was getting farther away. Damn Cassandra's unschooled senses! Raya thought angrily as she easily leaped the tall iron gate that separated the street from the estate. The driveway was long and the surrounding grounds were thick with trees rather than lawn. Raya could smell there were dogs somewhere but they would be use to Cassandra's smell and would likely leave her alone.

The room she sought had no window so she would have to enter via another entrance. The front door was guard by Mael's manservant, Ailo, but there was a back entrance. Around the back of the house was a patio and garden filled with flowers and plants. It looked like something from Babylon. Raya sneered at the sight, Cassandra had gone on and on about it to him. The idea she could be pleased by such a gift from a creature like that, sickened her.  There were two patio doors that led into the main foyer, from there she would be able to get to the upper floors.

She easily broke the lock and opened one of the doors, slipping in with little effort. Raya could smell Ailo near but could not see him. He would be able to sense her if he were close enough. Mael did not give the man enough credit, he was a very powerful vampire. Sensing that the manservant was getting nearer, Raya made her move, jumping from the indoor fountain and garden area to the left side of the double stairway and ran up the stairs. Cassandra's visiting family would be enough of a match to confuse the scent she had, the upper floors reeked of the humans.

Raya sniffed the air as she wasn't sure exactly what floor the blond girl was on. Adrian's scent would be in the same area, and though the idea of it made her want to tear her hair out, it would serve to make the revenge that much sweeter. A sudden creaking and door opening had her slipping into one of the free rooms and waiting for the sound to cease. Footsteps went by, they were of one of the humans, not the blond girl, however. Raya waited then slipped out and continued her search.

The sound of low cursing and explosions made her ears perk. Raya pressed her ear to one door, hearing what sounded like a TV and then someone talking at it. Adrian's scent was heavy in this room. "Bingo..." Raya said, twisting the doorknob slowly and opening the door. The blond girl was playing... some sort of interactive TV show. Raya had never seen such a thing. "Hey, Cassy! Where have you been all day? I have to tell you what happened!" The blond girl said, setting the control device down on the carpet. Apparently the males had not informed her of the current situation. How typical.

"Cassy, Adrian said he loved me, can you believe it?! And we did it!!! Cassy, it wasn't bad at all! He took extra time out just for me, even though he had work to do... I still can't believe it..." The blond girl went on. "Did it?" Raya asked, trying to seem more like Cassandra; stupid and sickeningly sweet and bubbly. "Yeah, you know! We made love." The girl said, her face glowing, her cheeks blushing. Raya clenched her first and dug a fang into her lower lip. "Oh, is that so? How utterly wonderful for you..." Raya said, holding back a snarl.

"Cassy, is there something wrong? You look weird... your eyes are..." Before the little blond trollop could fathom more, Raya backhanded her so hard she hit the opposite wall and slid to the floor in a heap. "I'm so happy for you, unfortunately it's time we were going..." Raya growled and lifted the little human onto her shoulder. She slipped out of the room, checking for noises but heard none, and proceeded to the stairway. She made it onto the main double stairway, victory mere feet away, when something struck her from the side, sending her toppling over.

Raya curled her lips back, baring her fangs as the manservant approached her. The lanky, gaunt frame, more like a sinister spider's than a man's, stalked toward her menacingly. "Ailo... if you hurt me, your master will kill you." Raya snarled, climbing to her feet. "Self-defense. Protecting the little one. I have enough reason to 'accidently' kill you." He said, his lip twisting into a smile. He wasted no time in attacking. Raya had one move and she knew she had better make it count because her body was ten times weaker than his. Another reason to hate Cassandra!

Ailo rushed at her, his claws and fangs flared and ready for blood. Raya ducked toward her right, gripping his left hand and spinning. The force set the manservant off the stair landing on onto the fountain between the double stairways, impaling him on the statue that decorated the feature. Raya quickly lifted the blond girl onto her shoulder again and made her way out, using the front door this time. "That's right, Vampire king, Prince of blood, ha! You are no match for me!" Raya gloated as she trotted down the main drive and over the gate.

The blond girl laid limp on her shoulder but the slow beat of her heart told her that the girl lived, even after that tumble. Whether she could move or had broken bones was another story. Hanz could deal with that, she thought as she walked. A portal opened a few feet ahead of her and she stepped inside. The darkness engulfed her body and drew her into its depths, a distinctly disturbing feeling but one that she was becoming accustom to.

This would be her future for a while yet, doing the demon's bidding until she could find a way out of the deal she had made. A little fun on the way wouldn't hurt though, she thought as she tossed the motionless body of the girl on the hard concrete floor.  "Hanz...? I have your friend, now where is my body?" Raya called into the echoing underground lair. the stench of decaying flesh was horrific but it was better than the scent of that house she had just left.

"My, don't you work fast?" Hanz said from the shadows, apparently lacking his physical form again. "Those bodies don't last you long, do they? I hope mine will last longer." Raya said, raising a brow. "Mmm come see, I made you something special while I was waiting. A physically strong woman but.... she was lacking in beauty. I fixed that." He said and his wispy form led her toward, what could only be called, a work table-gurney. There was a covered body laying on top of it.

"Have a look. Some of my best work, I think. I carved the skull to make sure the cheek bones and nose were just right, the added cartilage and muscle were a little harder to form but..." Hanz went on as Raya lifted the sheet, uncovering her new body. She was prepared to recoil in horror but found herself pleasantly surprised. "By the Gods... it perfect." She uttered, running her finger along the smooth, flawless skin. "Now, let's get you out of this pesky body, shall we?" Hanz said, leading her toward a clean cot.

"Ly down." He said as one of his 'girls' wheeled the gurney with the other body over next to her. "I almost can't believe you are keeping your word, Hanz..." Raya said, laying back. "Oh, don't worry. You see, I have many uses for you, my dear. Your talents will come in very handy." He said, his voice echoing throughout the underground chamber. "Let us begin..."
... I'll save my details for the next one XD

But yeah, Ailo, that just happened LOL
