Chapter Twenty-five

It had taken everything in him not to put her into a thrall and climb into the bed with her, just cuddle up against her body and deal with the results later. She was so... grown up. The incredulous look on her face now was so cute, he couldn't resist teasing her a little. "What do you mean 'I belong to you?!' I have never met you!" Abby cried, gripping the back of the chair she sat in so hard her knuckles turned white. Yet, there was a part of her he could feel that was reaching out to the idea. "Miss Knight, calm yourself. I'm only teasing... you seemed to expect that sort of response so I gave it to you. Humans can be rather judgmental that way." He said and smiled.

Abby's face was coloring slightly through her sun kissed skin. "Not funny. Well, out with it then." She insisted. "I knew you in a previous life and we were friends. Good friends. It's my job to make sure humans are safe from some of the less agreeable creatures in the world and, as fate would have it, I ran into you. Nothing more." He said nonchalantly. "That doesn't really tell me what you are." Abby remarked becoming more agitated as time passed. Adrian wasn't sure if he should tell her yet but then, Hanz and Raya would be back soon and his reunion with her may be over before it had a chance to begin.

"Do you promise not to run away if I do?" He asked, gauging her reaction. "You fucking appeared in my room from thin air, mister! Did I run away? No. I just want to make sure I'm not crazy... though how can I even be sure I am sitting here talking to you?" Abby said exasperatedly. "I could pinch you...?" Adrian said. Abby did not appear to be amused. "I'm sorry... your question is hard to answer.  I'm not sure what I am anymore. As for the man you saw... he was a monster. We call them rogues because they kill and feed on humans for pleasure and power.

Long before humans ruled the earth, there was a race of people that were called the 'Dark ones'. They could not walk in the sunlight because of genetic defects and primarily fed on... blood. Despite these issues they were, are, far stronger than humans and are able to manipulate things to their will. Such as weak or untrained minds and in some rare cases, they can ever use telekinesis. I was what the Dark Ones called, a Lyfeng, a half breed of these people and humans." Adrian was pleased with how he explained that. Genetic defect sounded much better than curse.

Abby stared at him for a long, awkward, moment before speaking. "Are you trying to tell me that, that guy who attacked me, was drinking that woman's blood and planned to drink my blood? Are you telling me that... he was a vampire? That you are kind of a vampire, too?" Abby finally asked, rubbing the bridge of her nose. "Yes." Adrian said simply. "And you were there to stop him from killing the woman?" She asked. "I was there to kill him. I had no idea the woman was there or dead. Sadly, by the time I found him, it was too late for her." He answered truthfully.

"What happened to her body and his? What happened to the blood?" Abby asked. Adrian was impressed at how thorough she was. "We make sure that humans do not know about us." He explained. "Why are you telling me all this?" Abby asked. "Because you have to know. Because they will be coming for you soon." Adrian admitted grimly. "Who, why?" Abby asked. "It is because of who you were."
"You mean in a previous life? Who was I?"
Adrian found it hard to speak of it even now.

The pain still felt raw in his mind. His beloved little Abby, so brutally destroyed. "Are you okay?" Abby asked, leaning closer to look at him. "You were my student, training to become like me, a hunter. We became entwined in a game with a creature of unimaginable power. It became infatuated with you and though we managed to rid the world of it for a while, we could not destroy it. It's trying to get back into this world and when it does, it will be seeking revenge." Adrian explained.

He realized that was a lot to chew on and he wouldn't be surprised if she told him to fuck off, but he halfway hoped it might jog her memory. "Revenge on you through me, I take it? So, what makes now different? I mean, can you stop it now?" Abby asked, her face was calm but her body language told a different story. "Yes, I can stop it. I can destroy it. I trained for over twenty years to do so." Adrian assured her. He wouldn't let them take her away this time. No one could take her away from him now.

"Well, I guess that makes me feel a little better." Abby said. "I must say, you are taking this rather well, miss Knight." Adrian remarked, watching her closely. "I'm not the fainting type. I was attacked by a guy that was shot in the head and acted like it was a paper cut, you appeared in my room from thin air and caught a bullet between your fingers. Hearing you explain why all that happened is only making it easier to swallow." Abby said matter-of-factly.

He was impressed. She would have made a wonderful student. "Well, now you know. Goodnight, miss Knight." He said and started toward the living room. "Wait a minute! Get your ass back here, buddy! We are not done talking." Abby rasped, jumping from her chair to grab his arm. The contact made his heart jump. He looked down at her hands, so small in comparison, holding his arm tightly. "I have to go, miss Knight." He said, lifting his eyes to hers, finding her face suddenly flush. "Call me, Abby. Can we talk again... uh... Adrian?" She asked. He smiled despite himself. He missed her so much.

"Of course.  Here is my cell phone number." He said and handed her a business card. She looked at it smiled and then looked up at him. "You're a music teacher...?" She asked. "My day job. I also teach martial arts and a few other things I have picked up." He explained. "Maybe I'll get a few lessons... hey, one more question. If these things looking for me are still trapped wherever, why did you follow me home and show yourself? Why not wait?" She asked, looking up at him from the card. He hesitated for a moment. "I missed you..." He said.

"Good day, Abby." He didn't wait for a response. It took everything in him to leave, to pull away from her grip when all he wanted was to be wrapped in her arms again. "Bye..." He heard it softly as the apartment door closed behind him. He continued down the hall and refused to turn when he heard the door open again. She was watching him leave. She must have perceived a connection. "Hey, watch out for sun burns!" She yelled from the door suddenly. He stopped and turned, raising a brow at her.  They were at least five doors apart and everyone in between them had to have heard her.

"I mean, you could wait here... until its shadier..." She added. God how she made him want to smile. She may have no idea who he was but she was the same beautiful person he had known twenty two years ago. "Thank you for the offer but I have to go to work, remember?" He said. "Right...music lessons. I have a lot of things to do anyway so... yeah. I have many hobbies that take up my weekend." She said, crossing her arms, learning against the door frame. He smiled, showing teeth.

"If you need anything, Abby, call me." He offered and with that he left.
Happy Halloween treat!

I had planned on doing this anyways since I had so many chapters written up ahead... but now its just a matter of saving my Dhampir's honor LOL Though, he is not very good at teasing either, you can see that his intentions were purely innocent... like normal... boring fucker.

I hope you all have a fun Halloween!!!
