Splice Monster Contest sub by Destinyfall Splice Monster Contest sub by Destinyfall
WOOOOOOOOOOT!
This is my first color job in Paint tool Sai O_O... OMG it took a long time and I am still not used to it!

Anyways, this is my submission for the Splice contest. The Idea of this monster comes from this Clam thing I saw on TV one day. It opened its shell and it had this nasty membrane thing that looked like a fish, which attracted other fish to its waiting... jaws or shell or whatever they do to eat. Anyways, I thought, how WEIRD would it be if there was a Giant Clam, Octopus, slug thing that had a Human membrane to attract humans to its waiting arms? The things on the front are like sensors, somewhat like a slug or a snail. On the top of the human decoy is a stinger... just for extra nastiness >D

Splice of:
Octopus
Clam thing (don't recall the name of the species)
Sting ray
Sea slug

I will have to agree, the Thing is one the best scifi horror movie of all time. Because its actually scary and the idea for the monster was really unique XD Plus, Kurt Russel/John Carpenter... I mean how do you beat that?

I remember watching The Thing the first time when I was 9 or 10, recording it on VHS from TV. Hooooly hell it scared me shitless. Then I used to watch it often before going to school. My mom went to work earlier so I was alone. I remember keeping my feet off the ground, worried that Norris's head would be underneath the table xD
Then when it was time to leave for school, I rushed to get the hell out of the apartment.
Man I've seen The Thing so many times that I know almost every line in the movie.

Let me tell you how you beat Kurt Russel/John Carpenter... Kurt Russel/Keith David/John Carpenter!
I made a conscious decision that I would consider Keith David my favorite actor of all time simply because of how badass and godlike his voice sounds after I watched the show Gargoyles. I'm telling you, the man is a god! Of course I can't say for sure he is my ultimate favorite since I got a thousand favorite actors but still, it feels good to be able to answer the question quickly if someone asks me who my favorite actor is.

Oh and about the monsters in The Thing, Rob Bottin who was the special effects guy, did you hear that he worked himself soooo hard to reach perfection on all those monsters that he lived at the studios, sleeping there, working all his waking hours, surviving off of vending machine candy bars and after filming the movie, he checked himself into the hospital for 2 weeks to recover! What a dedicated guy! And it tooootally shows that he worked so hard with his creatures. They're the most epic things I've ever seen in my life.

LOL Gargoyles was a damn cool movie and show, I'll admit XD

Movies like The Thing really inspired me and I actually wanted to be a "Monsters maker" after seeing a show called Movie Magic. Then CG ruined my dreams.... oh well XD But I must say I do prefer movies that are pre-CG defilement because it was such a craft! I should know that story about Rob Bottin, I have the Thing special edition DVD with all the special effects special features stuff. I only watched the Sketch and creature creations ideas part though. I love those kinda stories though its what made movie making so special and awesome. Have you seen the old version too?

Gargoyles was a cool movie? Are you sure you don't mix up the first 5 pilot episodes that were cut together to be like a movie on certain VHS tapes?

Grr, fucking CG, always raping potentially good movies! I saw the prequel to The Thing, and I found out that that movie has quite frankly been SABOTAGED! They created tons of really great looking animatronic puppets for The Thing prequel, but then somewhere towards the end of the project, they were ordered to put the crappiest CG effect you've ever seen in over it, which wasn't needed at all! You know a movie has been sabotaged when the "making of" feature looks more real and scary than the finished product.

Hahaha, I have the DVD of The Thing too with plenty of extra material. I love how talkative and enthusiastic Rob Bottin seems as a person. The kind of guy everyone loves hanging out with.

I did see the 50's "The Thing from Another World" but didn't like it at the time when I saw it. It just bothered me that it seemed so uneventful. It was talking movie. Like I remember this one part where a dying guy stumbles inside, describing how they were attacked and killed, and that's it. Robbed us of the action! Grr...
And then the ending speech where everyone was together in the room with the guy recording his voice, bragging about how amazing their encounter was... yeah, not if you've seen 7th voyage of Sinbad. But I dunno, if I rewatched it now as an adult I might like it far better, I'll rewatch it some day.

Ahh, no horror movie will never be quite so special to me as The Thing is. Not even Alien. Funny thing is, I saw Alien as a little kid and for some reason I can't recall any fear of it. I just remember being fascinated by the two mouths that the alien had and that facehugger on Kane's face. I might've been scared, I don't remember for sure, but the way I remember it is without any fear. And... I think I never was afraid of Alien! I never had any childhood nightmares about it. Stephen King's "IT" though, yikes! Not to mention Thing in the Addams Family xD

LOL I dunno, it came with a game and it was a long time ago XD

UGH the Prequel... personally, if they are not speaking norwegian I can't see how its a prequel <_< I haven't seen it I might not ever see it. I am not a fan of remakes. Speaking of CG raping a classic, the Wolfman <__<

Hahaha I actually own the 7th Voyage of Sinbad. Its really kinda stupid but I love the claymation monsters. I grew up watching clash of the titans and Jack the giant killer, so claymation monsters are something I have a soft spot for.
OK, going to admit a bit of mega nerdom here, I made a cardboard replica of the shit from the first Alien movie for the action figures I had... lol I love that series and I love the Alien vs Predator series as well. In fact, I bought a Jaguar Game console for the AVP game. That... was not such a good idea but eh lol

I agree, IT, no thank you. Clowns scare the crap out of me DX
