“It’s not just about you.” I said low. I felt all the eyes of his family on me from the doorway and I suddenly remember I had no shirt on. Fuck it, I didn’t give a shit, at least the kids weren’t there.

“If I may interject…?” Carter piped up quietly.
Rollo and I both glanced his way.

“Perhaps we should not be so hasty in letting Feral leave; he might serve to be useful.” Carter said.
Rollo narrowed his eyes.

“How?” He asked mockingly.

“Well, being a God I imagine that he knows where other wolves are. I have found some but not many in my travels.” Carter explained. Rollo snorted.
“Who cares if any others exist? We’ll all be dead soon, anyway…”
I grimaced at his gloomy response.

“We need to stop Ulveress, that’s why. I don’t know about you but I want revenge, I want the curse lifted for the sake of any females who still live and for the future. We can’t do it alone.” Carter said. God I loved him. There he was, surrounded by enemies, naked with only a sheet and one arm, standing up for what was right. I smiled at him and Rollo glared at me.
“I could help…with… that…” Feral sputtered and gasped.

“Bullshit, you can’t be trusted. The second I let you go you will vanish like you always do.” Rollo bit out.

“No… he can’t. He’s attached himself to Vita using that collar.” Carter mused, cocking his head as he observed me.  I paled and went to rip the damn thing off but my hands wouldn’t do it, they simply would not perform the action I wanted.

“Get it off me!” I cried.
Carter looked at Rollo, meeting his eyes.

“May I?” he asked.
Rollo grimaced then nodded, apparently agreeing not to kill the other male if he touched me. That irritated the hell out of me but I’d have to cope for the moment.
Carter found his jeans that had apparently been cleaned and neatly folded at one point but were now a rumpled mess, slightly falling off the edge of the bed. He put them on. The hole where the bolt had passed through was quite evident and somewhat stylish. He approached me slowly. I glared at Rollo, warning him. Carter reached up and gently undid the collar from around my neck.

“No, hey!” Feral gurgled fitfully.
Carter examined the collar then looked around the room.

“Did you bring any of my things back with us?” He asked.

“Yes, they are in the truck Owen brought back last night.” Daneel said from the doorway.

“Could you bring them here?”
Daneel nodded and disappeared into the hallway.

“What are you going to do?” I asked.

“Well, Feral has attached himself to you and manifest this collar as a symbol, however, he has poured more than half of his energy into the collar and the other percentage into that poor fox that Rollo is crushing. If I exorcise the fox, his energy will transfer to you, Vita. What I’d like to do is exorcise both you and the fox at the same time but transfer his energy into something else, something under our control. That way we have the benefit of his knowledge but we don’t have to worry about what he might do.” Carter explained. I blinked.

“Can you… do that to a God?” I asked, skeptical.

“No, not a real God but Feral is only a land spirit. I see that now. A powerful one but he is no God... Just arrogant like one… he is susceptible to many things: iron, salt, sage. Possibly even bells depending on what kind of land spirit he is.”

“Bells?” I echoed. Carter nodded.

“Some land spirit hate the sound of bells so much is sends them running like mad.” Carter explained. I filed that bit of info away for later.

“This is pure disrespect! I am your creator, the father of your race, how dare you!” Feral wheezed and struggled.

“How come he can’t get free from Rollo?” I asked, watching as Feral struggled wildly without luck.
“Good question…” Rollo muttered, looking the fox over.

“It’s hard to say for certain… it might have something to do with the bond he forged between you two, it might have something to do with the fact Feral and Rollo are almost twins visually, well, when he isn’t a fox. Could be he put too much of himself into Rollo, that might also explain why Rollo is the only child he really cares about.” Carter deduced thoughtfully.

“Fucking sociopath…” I muttered spitefully.

“It’s not uncommon for land spirits to be this way… they don’t have the same outlook as we do. The land spirits often loath mankind because most mortals can’t see or speak to them. Man has trespassed and destroyed their homes because of ignorance. More often than naught, a so called ‘demon’ haunting is actually an enraged land spirit. In Feral’s case… he wanted what mortals had and still does.”
I looked at Carter expectantly.

“A body, a physical body, if the stories are true. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if Feral hadn’t intended to possess Rollo’s body eventually, given how uncanny the resemblance is.” He said. My eyebrows shot up and I looked over to the fox. Rollo’s eyes narrowed as he regarded his father.
Like father like son.... XD Also, Carter being adorable/brave lol

Thanks for reading, hope you enjoy!
