Chapter 6: New recruit

Paris nudged the growling Raygen gently. “Raygen! What are you doing?” He whispered harshly. “She doesn’t belong with us…” Raygen scowled while staring a whole through their pretty new recruit. Maggie looked slightly frightened but took a step forward rather than back. “Raygen… I understand how you feel. I am not trying to becoming part of your pack; I am just trying to learn about you and your companions. I think we can defeat the Vampires if we just put our heads together.” Maggie stated confidently.

“I agree.” Paris said. Raygen turned sharply in shock. “You are the one that says they treat us like dogs! How can you believe this crap?” She gasped. Paris was visibly trying to control his temper, no one noticed, accept Raygen. “Raygen, sit down and show some manners. I didn’t train you to act like this. Miss Tsung, we are all honored that you wish to work with us.” He said bowing his head slightly; his eyes however were locked to Raygen in a battle of wills. Neither would back down.

“I am totally down with the Chika. Welcome aboard pretty Mama.” Red said while spinning in his chair and chewing on the end of a straw. Paris quickly, upon seeing it, ripped the straw from his mouth and stopped his chair from moving. He was utterly embarrassed but the redness on his cheeks wasn’t from embarrassment. He counted down in his head, desperately trying to calm his anger. Maggie swallowed hard and straightened the scarf at her neck. “Yes, well… back to business gentleman and… ladies.” Maggie made an effort to look Raygen in the eyes.

“The Vampire we are hunting down is the Jamaican drug lord, Blood. We are not entirely sure who his Master is but we think that it might be a She, not a He. Mostly because of the heavy Voodoo elements… sometimes the Vampires will use mystic symbolism to attract its victim. In this case, a Voodoo priestess giving her followers eternal life,” Maggie flipped through a few more pictures of the ritualistic killings by the New Posse. “As you can see, they are trying to hide their Vampirism behind Voodoo mysticism and black magic tricks. The police think it’s just the norm but we know better don’t me?” Maggie laughed as if trying to make light of it but no one else laughed.

“I don’t need his life story or why they are doing what they are doing. Tell us what we are supposed to do.” Paris said suddenly, coldly.  Maggie looked somewhat stunned and then cleared her throat. “Mister Crowling, we have to know our enemy before we attack, its just good strategy.” She said tersely. “I will taste his blood line when we find him. Then we will know who his Master is.” Paris said.

“We will be splitting off into pairs, the Vampires will be expecting a pack of wolves but they won’t be expecting a wolf and a human. We will be staking out in the Rio Hotel. Recognizance tells us that Blood is staying there in the top floor suite. So, we couple and stay in two separate rooms in the Hotel, this way the Vampires can’t be lead to any of our bases.” Maggie said reading from a paper in her hand. Her will seemed strong but her nerves were faltering with the eyes of the possessed on her.

“And who pray tell stays with whom?” Raygen said; her tone was slightly civil. “Well… I suppose we will decided that when we get to it.” Maggie answered coolly. “This is going to be a mess…” Paris said then stood up. “This meeting is not over yet!” Ferman said quickly. “If you are coming Miss Tsung, I suggest you follow us… good day gentleman” And with that, Paris began toward the door with almost everyone in the room screaming for him to stop.

Maggie, who was flustered, ran after the giant and his pack. “Mister Crowling, you can’t just leave in the middle of a meeting!” She cried. “Watch us.” Raygen said pushing past her. “Oh dear…” Paul muttered and trotted after them. “Mister Crowling! Who do you think you are exactly?! I demand you stop this instant!” Maggie yelled but she got no response as they piled into the elevator. “Paul, do something!” She urged but Paul just shrugged. After an exasperated breath, Maggie joined them in the elevator.

“Better get used to this Chika. Paris is boss and when Paris is not around… Raygen is boss… and even sometimes when Paris is around, Raygen is boss.” Red smiled inching closer to Maggie. “No, Paul is your leader, your boss. You follow him.” Maggie corrected him. Paul rolled his eyes and laughed under his breath. “No human controls us lady. And if you think you can come in here and be the big cheese then you have another thing coming.” Raygen said sharply.  “No one is our Master, we are not Vampires. WE have free will.” She continued. “Enough.” Paris said firmly and tapped the down button, it was already lit but he was feeling the need to get out of the small elevator as soon as possible.

They walked in silence to the car; it wouldn’t look good for an odd group coming from a church to start fighting about Werewolves and Vampires after all. However, once back in the car. The fight started again. This time Paris, Red and Raygen sat in the back while Paul drove and Maggie sat shotgun. “You have to learn to take orders, Paris. That’s what got you into trouble last night!” Maggie said. “What happened to Mister Crowling? How about some respect!” Raygen shot back. Her arms were crossed over her small chest and her lips were in a slightly pout.

Paris said nothing; he looked out the window and ignored Maggie’s comment. When they finally arrived home, they were all silent. Paul led them into the church and then down stairs to the living quarters. “Raygen, show Maggie to a room and make sure Red doesn’t have a key to it…” Paris said as he continued to walk past them down the dark hall. “Fine,” Raygen muttered and faked a smile. “Come on, this way.” She said and led Maggie down the hall.

“Raygen… I think we got off on the wrong foot… can we start over, please?’ Maggie asked while trying to keep up with Raygen’s fast strides. “Yeah…” Raygen sighed as she stopped in front of the only room that was empty. “Paris is being a real jerk today, I guess I was in a bad mood earlier… I am sorry. I am not a mean person, really.” She continued. Maggie smiled and extended her hand. “Good, I didn’t think you were.” Maggie said. Raygen shook her hand; she still hated the fact that Maggie had a great body that made hers look like a boy’s though.

“Anyways… this is your room, it’s not fixed up but there is only one and there is a bed and stuff…” Raygen said and handed Maggie the one and only key. “Um… does the other boy…. Does he like to…” Maggie murmured. “Yes, never take a shower unless Paris will watch the door for you too.” Raygen said completely serious. “I… see. Well… but… um Paris won’t? I mean he is trustable?” Maggie asked. “Sure, I mean he has never looked in on me or anything…” Raygen said then wandered off into thought.

Perhaps Paris never peeked at her but… Maggie was gorgeous…Raygen was a skinny 18 year old girl that Paris thought of as a sister. Suddenly Raygen’s heart began to beat faster and she wasn’t quite comfortable with the idea of Paris and Maggie in the shower area alone. “You know what… on second thought you better wait for me to watch for you in the shower.” Raygen said suddenly and smiled. “We can just shower together, can’t we?” Maggie asked innocently. Raygen shrugged, she didn’t much like that idea either. She didn’t need to see up close how much better Maggie looked.

“Did Paris go to his room?” Maggie asked. Raygen froze, of course he did but… “I can help you with anything you need to know.” Raygen said through gritted teeth. “I know but, I just wanted to apologize.” Maggie said with a smile. “He is pretty mad right now so… give it till morning, honestly.” Raygen said. Maggie nodded and vanished into her room. “I am not waiting till morning however…” Raygen whispered to herself. Paris was lying on his bed rubbing his temples when he heard a soft knock; he hoped to God it wasn’t the new girl.

“Who is it?” He asked; it wasn’t a very pleasant tone either. “It’s me. Can I come in?” Raygen asked; her voice was soft and low. Paris pressed harder on his temples and said, “Yes.” Raygen opened the door slowly and then shut it slowly, when she saw Paris lying on his bed with a scowl it made her want to cry. She hated it when he was mad. “I… am sorry. Please don’t be mad at me anymore, Paris.” She said in almost a sob. He turned his head to look at her, his expression softened almost instantly.

“Oh Ma petite… come.” He reached out and took her hand. He sat up slightly and pulled her closer, when he wrapped his arms around her, she felt like she might just die. She hugged him back as strongly as she could, even with her standing and him sitting; his head was at her shoulders. “Please forgive me, Cherie. I didn’t mean to make you cry.” Paris said softly. Raygen rested into his arms and onto his lap, her head nestled in the crook of his neck. “I was the one acting stupid.” Raygen whimpered.

He was so strong; he could hold her so effortlessly, she might as well have been made of dust. She could feel his muscles just beneath his shirt, if she only had the guts to slip her hand inside and feel them…
