Chapter 5: The Mother in Law

Cassy smiled when Mael entered the room but put a finger to her lips to let him know she was on the phone. The cell phone he had bought her was so small it literally vanished in her palm. Mael sat in a large chair, obviously built for his size, and rested his chin in his hand patiently. Cassy’s smile grew wider as he stared at her, he could make her feel like the most beautiful woman in the world without saying a word.

“Yes Mom, we are all set up for you… Mael is just dying to meet you.” Cassy said but nearly burst out laughing when Mael raised two thumbs up. “Eh… Yes of course… we must have like… I dunno…twenty rooms here. Uh…I…. why is she out?! Oh no… yes Mom… but… I will have to see if there is room…” Cassy began stuttering. Mael smiled watching her, he hadn’t really known what it was like to have a normal family and frankly he was beginning to forget why he hated his own… but then his Brother did popped up now and then to remind him.

“Tell her to bring whomever she wishes.” He said. Cassy began waving her arm and making a motion to be quiet. “Oh… yeah… that was him… yeah his voice does carry doesn’t it…” Cassy said giving him a dirty look. “Well yeah I guess we do have enough room for her after all… Yes… tomorrow?!!! A car, uh well…hmmm… we will send a car. Yes.” Cassy lifted her chin and tried to sound snooty but it hardly worked. “Love you too, Mom. MOM! Yes IAM wearing white! Good bye!” Cassy hung the phone up and pretended to faint to the floor.

“Oh God this is going to suck…” She moaned into the rug. Mael laughed and stood up; he walked over slowly and kneeled down beside her. “What is going to suck?” He asked turning her over and pulling her limp body onto his lap. “My Sister is coming too…” Cassy groaned. “I didn’t know you had a sister… there are no strong memories of her in your mind.” He said brushing the hair from her face. “That’s because I try very hard to forget I have one… she is in college therefore she thinks she is smarter than everyone.” Cassy said while playing with the ties of Mael’s cliché Romance cover shirt he ALWAYS wore.

“I like this shirt and so do you.” He laughed. “Stop reading my mind…Its corny, but I want you to wear it and the tightest pair of leather pants you can fit into when my sister comes.” Cassy said then grinned evilly.  “I have no shame in parading around like a show cat for you, my love…” He purred kissing each finger of her hand. “Good, because I want to show you off like crazy…” She giggled, “Cat, it sounds like you are a hooker!” She continued to laugh. Mael grinned then began to consume each of her fingers separately, he drew them in slowly and pulled them out even slower, until Cassy had stopped laughing and started to watch him intently.

His fangs began to scrapes against her flesh, drawing blood. She gasped and nearly went limp from the strange dreamy sensation of the nip. Before she knew it, he was at her neck sinking his teeth exquisitely into the soft flesh. His teeth penetrated her like his body did, sending her into shudders of pleasure that drew her harder against him. She never felt more close to him than when they shared blood and they did it weekly, he said it kept their bond strong but she had a feeling that even without it, their bond was unbreakable.

Cassy paced the foyer until a path was beginning to show. Ailo had gone to pick her mother and sister up, not by his own will of course, and was do home any moment. “I have spent more money in the last few days than I have in centuries… but I suppose an $18.000 dollar rug is really not important…” Mael smiled kicking at the nearly destroyed rug. As commanded, he was in his white ‘Romance novel’ shirt, black leather pants, leather boots and had his hair neatly tied back. Cassy had suggested the hair be contained so he wasn’t too outrageous looking, she also allowed him to wear a coat over the shirt.

“Your troubled heart is making me nervous; perhaps you should lie down while I greet your Mother and Sister?” Mael asked wrapping his arms around her; it was for comfort but also to stop her endless pacing. “No… I don’t trust my Sister not to try and steal you from me…” Cassy said with a sneer. “That could never happen, my dearest, I am yours alone.” Mael assured her. “You don’t know my Sister…” Just then the door creaked open, Cassy’s heart jumped and nearly beat out of her chest. “Relax… it’s only your Family…” Mael whispered into her ear.

“I know…” She whispered back and then put on the most believable fake smile she could muster and ran to the door with open arms. “Mom!” Mael just waited silently. “Cassidy, oh you look… pale…but good! Give me a hug!” Cassy’s mother said but didn’t really give her a choice in hugging as she enveloped her. “Where is Nicole?” Cassy asked when she finally pried her Mother free. “She is at the car with, oh…Lilo?” Her mother said. She was a short woman but still had a nice body for a woman in her fifties; her hair however, more resembled a ratted red nest than hair.

She wore a wildly embellished t-shirt in blue and white crop pants with sandals. Mael smiled when she looked over at him. “Ailo, Mom, Ailo. OH um… this is Mael…” Cassy said motioning him to come over, he did so but lazily. He took her mother’s hand and brought it to his lips before bowing his head and placing a very soft kiss there. “It is a pleasure, Mrs. Peterson.” He said releasing her hand.  Cassy curled her lip, she had told him NOT to act like a Vampire.

“Oh my… you are certainly…” Cassy’s mother looked to Cassy in slight shock then back to Mael. “Certainly Tall dark and handsome, aren’t you! You can call me Jackie by the way… I am sure that Cassy has told you all about her Father, right?” Mael shook his head innocently, though he could read her mind, he could only read what she allowed him to read. “She has never mentioned her father to me.” He said. “Cassidy, good grief! Well she gets so easily embarrassed… come I will tell you while you show me around this place.” Jackie said taking Mael’s arm. He looked to Cassy then shrugged and led her Mother toward the lower study.

Cassy was starting to feel only slightly sick to her stomach then her sister walked in with Ailo and she felt she might just throw up on the $18.000 dollar rug. “Cassy!” Nicole cried and ran to hug her. Nicole was blonde, built and smart. Or in others words a nightmare. She also had a reputation for stealing other women’s men, especial Cassy’s. “Nicole…. How good it is to see you.” Cassy said through a mendacious smile. “I didn’t think you would make it to the wedding…” Nicole giggled and squeezed tighter. “Oh how could I miss it? You getting Married, I have to see this guy…” Nicole said.

“He is showing Mom around the house right now… you will have to wait a minute. Uh… you met Ailo though, he is single you know!” Cassy grinned. Ailo looked horrified for a moment. “Yes, he is sweet isn’t he…?” She commented but didn’t seem too interested. Cassy could hear and see her sister’s thoughts; she kept forgetting she was no longer human. Nicole was picture an old, balding man with money falling out of his pockets and Cassy hanging on him like a whore. She tried not to smile.

“Oh… look, here they are.” Cassy chimed, she was now more interested in showing off than protecting her man. She couldn’t help the wicked smiled curling her lip as her sister’s eyes grew wide and her mouth dropped open. Jackie was still holding on to Mael’s arm and talking a mile a minute and Mael was politely nodding and acting as though he was interested in what she was talking about. “Mael, come meet my Sister, Nicole.” Cassy said sweetly. She had never seen her sister actually speechless but then… she was picking an old bald guy…

“Nicole…” Mael did the same to her as he had done with Cassy’s mother; kissed her hand lightly. “Aw… nice to meet you...” Nicole said. Her cheeks slightly flushed. “Mael was telling me that you met at a night club and it was love at first sight.” Cassy’s mother said. Cassy nodded, trying to stop giving her sister the death gaze. “Yes, it was love at first sight…” Cassy Muttered. “And despite you living here, he said that you are still pure as the driven snow.” Jackie said sharply. Cassy turned her head quickly it shock. “What? I mean… uh yes of course um… Mael respects my beliefs. He is just the best!” She said forcing another smile.

Mael was watching her, a small smile curling his lips. He was highly amused; she could hear him laughing in his mind. “Funny… I thought you lost your virginity on prom night with Billy Thomson?” Nicole said suddenly. Her brow was raised in challenge. “Cassy is a pure woman and I believe whatever she tells me. We have a very strong trust.” Mael said softly. The tension in the room was thick and heavy; it was obvious here was going to be a battle between the two girls if they were not removed from the room.

“Let me show you to your rooms.” Mael said inclining his hand toward the double stairway. “Oh lovely, I just can’t wait to see them! Male, you are just such a gentleman, you don’t get those nowadays, you know?’ Jackie said with a bright smile. “A woman of your beauty should always be treated with the greatest of care. But uh… it’s MAY El. You say the E in the name.” He corrected gently. “Oh… How mysterious. You are foreign aren’t you? I can tell from that accent of yours... you have to tell me where you are from.” Jackie began again as they walked up the stairs.
